As we head directly into the summer season, we are all getting our thermostats set so that we can stay cool thanks to our AC systems. As everyone gets their AC up and running this summer, there are bound to be several issues that homeowners have to deal with. There are some AC problems that are more common than others. Absolute P&M Services is here to talk about some of the most common AC problems that homeowners deal with each summer season.
How Do I Know What’s Wrong with My AC Unit?
It can be helpful to have an idea of what you’re dealing with when it comes to AC trouble. Here are some of the most common issues we see throughout the summer months.
– Refrigerant Leaks: There are many people that think when the refrigerant in their AC unit gets low, it simply needs to be filled up again and they’re good to go. Unfortunately, this isn’t how it works. The refrigerant located in your AC unit is a closed system. This means that your AC unit shouldn’t ever run out of it but should cycle it through over and over again. However, if you have a leak, that is another story. Sometimes, refrigerant leaks can be fixed, but there are certainly times where the unit is so old that it makes more sense to replace the unit instead.
– Electrical AC Failure: Another one of the most common problems with an AC unit has to do with the electrical components of the unit going bad. Whether it’s a blown fuse, faulty wiring, or tripped circuit breakers, you can be miserable when your AC isn’t working because the electrical components are malfunctioning.
– AC Condenser Unit Problems: The condenser fan in your AC unit plays a large role in your comfort. If it isn’t working, the heat isn’t getting removed from the air in your home properly. Not only will you feel uncomfortable in your home, but it can cause the AC unit to overheat as well.
– AC Drainage Issues: Part of cooling the air in your home happens when the humidity is removed from the air as well. When humidity is taken from the air, it has to be able to drain somewhere though. If the condensate drain is clogged, it can cause all of that water to backup in your system and cause all sorts of shortages and issues with the electrical components. While this can be an easy fix, much of the time it isn’t caught until there is a lot of water that has accumulated on the system.
