Check Furnace Labels for Age
The first place to go when trying to figure out the age of your furnace is the furnace itself. You can tell a lot from the labeling on furnaces. This is especially true for a furnace that is newer. Recently, manufacturers have made a conscious effort to improve their labeling to make it easier to find out this important information.
Find Out Furnace Installation & Service Dates
Sometimes, when you have a furnace that is older, the manufacture date isn’t something you can easily read on the label. When this is the case, you will want to turn to the owner’s manual if you can find it. There may be information found in that manual that will let you know when the furnace was installed. Sometimes, there is a service log found in the owner’s manual that can give you an idea of when it was first installed as well.
Turn Off Your Furnace to Search for How Old it Is
If you still haven’t been able to find out the age of your furnace, you will need to turn it off completely before moving forward in your search. If there aren’t any stickers or tags that are found on the outside of the furnace, you may be able to find it somewhere on the inside panels. There is a removeable door that you can remove to take a look inside. There could also be stamps somewhere on components that can give you a good idea of when the furnace was manufactured. Look on the gas valve, electric relay, fan blades and blower compartment to see if you can get any information off of them.
Furnace Serial Number
Sometimes, you may not be able to easily find the date that the furnace was manufactured on, but you can find out what the serial number is. By doing a quick serial number search online, you may be able to find out when your furnace was made and how old it is.
