Most of us are incredibly dependent on our AC systems to keep us cool during the summer. When something goes wrong and our AC isn’t working, most people are willing to do just about anything to get their units back up and running. When it comes to AC repairs, there are several common repairs that many homeowners experience as their units start to get older. Absolute P&M Services is here to talk about some of the most common AC repairs that we get called out on.
Common AC Repairs
There are several working parts that make up your AC system. This means that there are a number of different things that can go wrong. However, there are some repairs that are more common than others.
– Refrigerant Leaks: As your unit gets older, the refrigerant that allows your unit to cool the air in your home properly can spring a leak. The refrigerant in the unit is in a closed system and shouldn’t need to be charged unless there is a leak somewhere.
– Electrical Issues: If there is improper wiring inside your unit, it can put your home at risk of a fire, but it can also keep your unit from working properly. If your AC is constantly causing breakers to trip, it could mean that there is a wiring issue somewhere that needs to be addressed.
– Faulty AC Fan: The fan is another essential part of your AC system. If it isn’t working properly, there won’t be air circulation that is vital in keeping your home cool. Some of the common problems that could be a problem with the fan are motor failures, worn belts, lack or lubrication and more. These problems can easily be detected in regular maintenance.
– AC Compressor Issues: The compressor found inside your unit is often referred to as the heart of the unit. This is because it works to compress the refrigerant and pumps is through the system. Some of the most common signs of a problem with your compressor is strange noises and a system that has a difficult time starting up entirely.
– Clogged Drains: As your AC system works to cool the air in your home, it also removes humidity that can cause your home to feel warmer than it actually is. That moisture needs to be drained away from the unit or it can cause several different problems. If the drain is clogged, the water will start to pool around the unit and cause it to malfunction.
